Last Sunday was Kathleen’s 11th birthday and it also happened to be a dance competition day. Kathleen and I left early Sunday morning to drive to Aix to support Kathleen’s teammates, Tiffanie and Juliet, who were competing in the jazz section of the competition before lunch. The Jeu de Paume Theatre, where the event was held, was just beautiful! It was exciting to watch the jazz and contemporary part of the competition…since Kathleen wasn’t participating, I could relax! We went out for lunch on the Cours Mirabeau with Tiffanie’s family, and met Tutu, Bucky and Lucie on the way! They had come to Aix to watch Kathleen in the afternoon and were planning lunch as well, so they joined us for a quick lunch. The girls had to get back to the theatre to dress and get ready for the ballet competition.
It was fun having Tutu and family there to watch and we thought Kathleen did a wonderful job. The judges thought otherwise, however, and she did not receive a prize at the end of the night. She was disappointed, but appreciated the day…filled with watching other dancers, Kathleen and her comrades goofing off and making up dances, and a venture outside to find some well-deserved ice cream! We headed home after midnight which made getting up for school the next day a real challenge! Only one more dance competition to go this year! Yeh!
