Parade of the Cart

Their are many festivals in the towns and villages in Provence during the summer. Often they celebrate the hard work it takes complete the harvest. One such of these was a site to see. In Chateaurenard, the town where Lucie (and soon Kathleen) attend college, they held a fete not just to celebrate the vegetables harvested, but the workhorses that for centuries have done much of the hard work.

Eighty-seven fully decorated workhorses paraded through the town with their cowboys in tow. Following this procession, came a cart that was covered completely with the various vegetables that were harvested. The crowd cheered, the cowboy’s demonstrated their whips and the horses clopped along through the town. Then, they turned around and marched through the town again!
