April showers

In preparation for the upcoming hot weather, Bucky installed an outdoor shower this weekend! He bought the plumbing at a recent vide grenier and then headed to the local bricomarche (or hardware store) for the wood and other supplies he needed. The water for the shower comes from the outside faucet which is obviously (based on Lucie’s expression below!) cold, but it will certainly be refreshing on hot summer days and after working in the yard or after coming home from a day at the beach. Bucky and I are outdoor shower people…My favorite outdoor shower is the one at Liz Bell’s house on Martha’s Vineyard. It is simple and private and provides both hot and cold water which allows one to enjoy the outdoors while taking a nice, normal shower. We didn’t have the budget nor the knowledge to replicate the shower on the Vineyard, so we based our design on the shower we used to have by our pool at 500 Royall Avenue. We bought that shower at Target for $75. We hooked it up to the hose, and voila, we had an outdoor shower. Bucky used to shower out there after working in the yard or biking in the mornings. The kids used it a lot to wash their hair after swimming which was fast and easy. So, we went again with the simple hose hook-up, but did add some privacy screens to allow for those who really want to shower au natural! Lucie decided to give it a try yesterday after playing in the yard with her sister and Hannah. She said it was really cold, but she got her hair and body clean very quickly! Bravo to Bucky for building our outdoor shower! We look forward to many, refreshing showers from April and beyond!

Looks like it is cold!

And before the shower, here is Lucie in our "pool" with Kathleen posing...
