Dancing in Aix!

On April 3, Kathleen participated in her second dance competition. This time the event was in Aix en Provence which is just about 45 minutes from us. Valerie and Tiffanie went with us and we followed Tomtom’s directions to get to the venue (a casino!) without any problems! The rest of the dance gang met us there, and the girls got ready to perfrom. This competition was different from the one in La Ciotat because each dancer in their respective group had to perform the same dance. Both Kathleen and Tiffanie participated in classique and jazz and so did about a hundred other kids so the audience watched the same dance, with the same music over and over and over again…which made for quite a long day! The girls did classique first and then we had a break where we enjoyed lunching together as a group. After their jazz number, we had another break while the judges determined the dancers’ scores and the participants enjoyed the casino (no one won any money in our group!). Finally, the judges were ready to award prizes to those dancers who had scored enough points to warrant a third, second or first prize. We joined the masses in the auditorium where the music was blaring and everyone was nervous about the results! I am thrilled to report that Kathleen was awarded a third prize for classique, as well as, a third prize for jazz! Tiffanie got a second prize for ballet and a third prize for jazz! We were all very excited as the girls came back to our seats to show off their medals. Kathleen said she felt like Michael Phelps! I sure was proud!
