Walls in France: Tie dye 4ever

As Kathleen's birthday approached, we brainstormed about themes for a party...a pool party was impossible since we have no pool, bowling was done by her sister, and there was no way in the world I was going to have a sleepover for a group of 12-year-olds in our little house. We finally hit upon a winner - a tie-dye party!! It was a great idea and the invitations we made on the computer were cool, but it was tougher getting the supplies than we had imagined. Tie-dyeing is popular in France so I wasn't quite sure what to do. I asked our friend and accomplished seamstress, Elyane, and she suggested getting dye at a fabric store in Avignon. Bucky and I went there and they then sent us to Cultura, a cool art store that made me drool! There, we found fabric paint that we figured we could dilute and would give the same effect as tie-dye so we went with that. We then bought lots of white t-shirts at Auchan and prepared for the party.

Luckily the weather cooperated and the girls spent the afternoon tie-dyeing in the backyard. They also enjoyed ice cream sundaes and playbadminton. The party was a huge success and so was the tie-dyeing project! Once the t-shirts had dried, Kathleen took them to her friends and they all wore them to school one day. Groovy!
