After arriving at the Defaix's house (and unloading our eight suitcases!), Kahtleen informed me that there was a pony in their backyard. I didn't believe her and thought that she and Josepha had experienced a communication glitch because Jojo doesn't speak much English and Kathleen speaks practically no French (yet!). Alas, it was not a communication problem. There really was a pony in their backyard. The pony had been there a month to enjoy the grass in their backyard! Her owner picked her up that evening, and it was lots of fun to say that on our first day in France, there was a pony in the backyard!
